Backpack Overnight Camp, Indian Trail: Fri-Sat, Oct. 27-28

Backpacking Overnight Camp out

WHEN:  Friday, Oct. 27 - Saturday, Oct. 28 (return home after breakfast)
MEET:  Friday, 3 pm, at the Church
WHO:  11 - 18 year old young men
WHY:  This will fulfill requirements for Cooking and Camping and various rank advancements.

LOCATION:  Ogden Canyon - 12th Street - Indian Tail

We will be hiking .77 miles from the Trail head in Ogden Canyon.

I hiked the trail and scouted the camp site areas along the trail. See the pictures below. There is a stream that runs near the trail and camp sites. There are 3 - 4 open, fairly level areas along the trail for tents and lots of trees that could be used for hammocks. I recommend using a small-lightweight tent for your shelter. It will be getting close to freezing Friday night - Saturday morning on the days we're camping so be sure to bring the items on the Packing List, shown below.

You can pack in water but maybe don't bring more than a liter since water is heavy. If you can, bring a water filtration system and filter the water out of the stream that runs along the trail and near the camp sites. You will also want to bring food that is good for backpacking. For example, Mountain Man freeze dried entrees, Ramon noodles or even Cup-o-soup. Wear cloths that wick sweat and moisture away from your skin. Avoid cotton if you can. Wool is a great fabric for all types of camping. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a text or give me a call.
